Ministries of First Christian Church

First Christian Church offers many opportunities for people to serve the Lord as well as many to learn and grow spiritually.

Music

Music programs are an important element of ministry at First Christian Church, Fredericksburg. It is known that a music ministry can also touch hearts and change lives. FCC offers a wide variety of music during its Sunday services that includes traditional hymns, contemporary praise and worship music, and southern gospel favorites.

The music ministry at FCC has many different programs that everyone is encouraged to participate in such as:

Adult Choir – Our choir meets each Wednesday evening from 7:45 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. They offer a musical presentation each week during the 9:00 a.m. traditional worship service. Membership in the choir is open to ANYONE who loves to sing – there are no tryouts required for membership.

Praise Team – Our praise team leads the worship service each Sunday morning at the 11:00 a.m. contemporary service and currently consists of a keyboard, three guitars and three vocalists. We are constantly seeking to expand this ministry effort to include other instruments and vocalists.

Annual Adult Music Presentations – Our adult choir presents its annual Christmas cantata on the Sunday before the Sunday before Christmas Day. In 2007, however, it will be presented at the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. It frequently will include additional non-singers, narrators and children in its presentation. Cantata presentations are normally made at the 9:00 a.m. Sunday traditional service. Our adult choir presents its annual Easter cantata on Palm Sunday.  It also will frequently include additional non-singers, narrators and children in its presentation.  Special presentations are normally also made during the Sunday services of the Thanksgiving season and near patriotic holidays. In 2007, we presented our Patriotic cantata in July and are presenting our Thanksgiving cantata at the 9:00 a.m. traditional service on November 18th.

Christmas Trolley – Annually, the choir and congregation supports providing music to local area nursing homes in coordination with Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg. Seats are limited and are available on a reserved basis when the event is announced.

Services at Area Nursing Homes – Normally for a period of one month each, our church sponsors services at both Woodmont Nursing Home and at Mill Park Terrace. These services are normally 30-45 minutes and include a biblical message and music presentations by a musical ensemble or choir.

God's World Children – On most Sundays, members of our choir participate in a ten minute musical program with our God's World Children and includes their favorite songs they learned during God's World.  Our children participate annual in the presentation of palms each Palm Sunday.

Music Children's Programs – While not scheduled on a constant basis, our children have participated in both Christmas and Easter musical plays designed for their age levels. These presentations are normally on a Saturday or Sunday evening to permit all parents the ability to attend.

Sponsoring other music events – FCC frequently will invite other music artists, choirs and ensembles to lead its worship service or to bring a special music program during evening hours. In the fall of 2007, we will listen to the beautiful music and witness of local artist Anthony Campbell.

Children and Youth

At FCC we love our children and youth. Many events take place each year specifically for the youth and children's groups including all-night lock-ins, trips to Central Park Fun-Land, concert events, and service to the Fredericksburg community.

Each Sunday, bible lessons are taught to the children and youth during the bible study period at 10:00 am. During the 11:00 am worship service, an age appropriate worship service is presented for the youth at FCC.

Plus, there is a new an exciting Vacation Bible School presented each year for the children in the surrounding community to experience and participate in. Children from the local Homeless Shelter are picked up and attend this event following a church supper provided for the VBS children and helpers.

We look forward to seeing you at our weekly youth meeting!
