| Statement
of Faith Who we are... First
Christian Church is a member of the Disciple Heritage Fellowship which is made
up of congregations and individuals who claim the ideals of the Campbell-Stone
Heritage. This means they affirm Jesus Christ as the only Savior of the
world and Scripture as their highest authority in matters of faith and practice.
They also believe that ultimate goal of the church is the evangelization of the
world to saving faith in Jesus Christ. They believe one of the prerequisites
to world evangelization is a church united in the essentials of the faith.
They
are committed to the truth that the church will not experience true unity unless
there is agreement that Jesus is the only Savior of the world and that Scripture
is the highest authority in matters of faith and practice. We
believe in baptism by immersion and a weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper.
Children wishing to be baptized are encouraged to attend a class that will prepare
them for this important step. What we believe...
- We believe that the Bible is the Word of God.
- We
believe in one God who manifests Himself in the three persons of the Holy Trinity:
the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- We believe that
the writers of the Bible were inspired by God. (Timothy 3:13)
- We
believe that Jesus Christ is indeed the Son of God and was born of the Virgin
Mary.
(Luke 1:26-28) - We believe that He died
on the cross for our sins and that He rose from the grave and that He lives today
at the right hand of God, making intercession for us. (Romans 8:34)
- We
believe that salvation comes through Jesus alone. "I am the way and
the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
(John 14:6)
- We believe that the Holy Spirit is present
with us and that He will teach us the right way to live, if we will permit Him.
(John 14:26)
- We believe that Jesus commissioned
His followers to carry the Gospel throughout the world, and we actively support
missionary efforts. (Matthew 28:19-20
